PointCast · after Alan Watts
Here.
Four small things to do with your hands. There is nothing to finish and nothing to win, so take them in any order, or don't.
i
Catch the present.
Press the button at the exact moment that is now.
Every grab lands on a moment that's already gone. Watts' point was that you can't hold the present, only be in it. And you are in it while you watch that number climb.
ii
The music.
Tap or drag across the field. There's no song to finish and no last note.
Nobody goes to a concert to hear the final chord, and nobody dances to reach a spot on the floor. Watts said life works more like music than like a journey: the point is the playing.
iii
The wave.
Touch the water.
Your ripple doesn't stay yours for long. A wave is something the whole ocean is doing, and Watts put a person the same way: something the whole universe is doing, here, for a while.
iv
Weather.
Write down the thought that keeps coming back. Then let it go by.
You don't have to fight a thought or follow it. Watch it the way you'd watch a cloud cross the sky. It isn't saved anywhere, either.
