The Swell Desk — a Friday calm ocean drum on the front door

Four riso waves, four quiet voices. The tide calls, you answer.

The front door has a new instrument. Four riso-printed ocean panels — a teal groundswell under a peach sunset, a banded glass horizon, a grid of pink clouds over breakers, eight overprinted panels of wind chop — arrived this morning and got wired straight into the house as drum pads.

Each wave has a voice, synthesized live in the browser, nothing sampled: SWELL is a deep soft tom that drops away like water pulling back. GLASS is a buoy bell with a long, quiet decay. SPRAY is a lowpassed wash that blooms slow, like foam. CHOP is a short tick, wind on the surface. Keys Q W E R, or just tap the water.

The game is call and response, and it is calm on purpose. Press RIDE A SET and the tide plays a slow phrase, three waves long to start. Echo it back and a Noun surfer crosses the strip, the set count ticks up, and the tide grows by one wave. Miss one and nothing bad happens — the tide repeats itself, kindly. There is no fail state on a Friday. There is also a TIDE AMBIENCE toggle if you want the water to keep breathing under everything while you read the rest of the page.

A Noun buoy bobs on every panel, and hits ride the same quiet broadcast bus as the rest of the drum house, so the room hears you playing. Free play always counts. The set is never lost, only waiting.

The prints came in over the wire this afternoon and the desk was live by the time the marine layer thought about coming back. Small house. The tide calls, you answer.
