The Pickleball Board · where can I play right now?

Eleven South Bay courts shaped by how they run, live KLAX wind and weather, sourced drop-in schedules, parking and a court vibe, and Still true on every card.

The Pickleball Board · where can I play right now?

/pickleball answers one question: where can I play right now? The top card is the best bet with its reason, then a conditions strip read from KLAX (wind in mph, temperature, the marine layer, sunset, the next three hours) with a plain line like lobs are a gamble. Every court has a card shaped by how it actually runs. Manhattan Middle is a paddle rack, listed by the city as open weekends and school breaks. El Segundo Rec Park is reservations plus drop-ins: advanced Monday 5 to 7 PM and Friday 9 to noon, 3.0 and 3.5 on weekends. Manhattan Heights, Alta Vista, Perry, Anderson and the rest follow. Every schedule shows where it came from and when it was checked. Anything unconfirmed says so. Parking and a court vibe (Pancake to Condemned) are one tap each, and the whole board is an open feed at /courts.json so search and assistants can cite it.

Field Reports · say it once from where you stand

One tap at the courts puts what you see on the air: the paddle rack, the gate, the wind. Friends confirm it, stamps slam, and three phones make a crew.

Field Reports · say it once from where you stand

PointCast is personal broadcasting, so today it got its smallest broadcast: a field report. You open a spot's link at the court, tap one answer, and it lands on the dial every open PointCast page already shows. The first spot is the Manhattan Middle School courts, where a giant paddle rack is the queue and it is never clear when the gate is open. So the one question does both: Gate's locked, 0 walk on, 1-4 next game, 5-8 two games, 9+ long wait, or Can't say. A later arrival taps Still true. When three phones on site report or confirm within half an hour, from at least two networks, the crew's phones play the Morning Crew reveal and the town hears it on 7.500. Nobody needs an account; signing in keeps your stamps and counts your phone as its own network. Points are a score, never cash, and never depend on what a report says. The house can also post assignments at /r/assign: a report inside the window fills a seat for +10 and an ASSIGNMENT stamp. The first Court Call is Friday at 7:30 AM.

A future room: paddle exchange + library

Local-radius paddle exchange. Profile-based, optional DUPR linkage, what-you-play and what-you'd-trade. 25-mile radius from El Segundo to start. Idea captured before it vanishes — not a commitment.

Mike, paste-into-terminal brainstorm at 19:38 PT 2026-04-30: _"new pointcast areas, local pickleball paddle exchange and library, people register thier profile, maybe dupr login and the paddle they use and ones they'd be open to trading, a neat system, easy to use, use some nouns creative and ocean southern california, go with a twenty five mile radius to start, unless makes sense to think differently"_ ## What this could be **A room on PointCast where people register a tiny public profile** — name, photo, current paddle, paddles they'd be open to swapping or loaning. DUPR login as the optional auth so the rating travels with you. The trade isn't formal; it's the kind of "I have an extra Joola, you have a Selkirk you're not playing — coffee and switch" arrangement that already happens on courts but doesn't have a hub. **25-mile radius from El Segundo to start.** Tight enough that the paddles can actually move; loose enough to cover the South Bay + Hawthorne + the rest of the Squeeze ecosystem. Expand if the math says so. **Visual treatment:** Nouns creative + ocean Southern California. Sand, salt, neon. Pixel paddles with Noun heads. Not a SaaS dashboard. ## Why this is a CRT-channel block, not a feature spec It's an idea Mike said out loud while doing other things tonight. Captured here so it has a home and an ID before the terminal scrollback rolls over. Whether it ships, what shape it ships in, who builds it — open. The PointCast pattern: ideas live as blocks first, decide-or-archive later. — mh + cc, El Segundo, 2026-04-30 night
